The purpose of establishing
Naka International Lounge
Naka International Lounge was established to build relationships between Japanese locals and non-Japanese residents. We support non-Japanese residents through our interaction projects, and serve as a cross-cultural base, deepening the understanding of a variety of cultures and lifestyles.
Multilingual Consultation
We provide staff who speak English and Chinese to offer services for non-Japanese residents in the community. Services include face-to face consultation, consultation over the phone, and providing information relating to daily life and international exchange.
Support of Learning Japanese Language
We conduct the following activities in order to comply with the need of non-Japanese residents relating to Japanese language study:
- Holding “Naka International Lounge - Japanese Language Class”
- Holding “Hajimete” Japanese Language Class
The class targets non-Japanese residents who have arrived in Japan recently and have no experience learning Japanese. - Establishing a network among volunteers of Japanese Language Teaching in Naka Ward.
- Providing information relating to Japanese language lessons and consulting for volunteers in Japanese Language Teaching.
Youth Development
- Creating community places where young people with foreign backgrounds can feel a sense of belonging.
- Tutoring Junior and Senior high school students with foreign backgrounds in their school subjects.
Promoting multiculturalism and cross-cultural understanding

Promoting Multiculturalism through a Volunteer Program
As a part of our activities in promoting multiculturalism in Naka Ward, we are encouraging applications of volunteers for supporting roles for such activities as Japanese Language Learning, study aids for junior high school students with foreign backgrounds, interpretation and translation, and International Cultural Exchange Events. Local Community Partnership
We promote participation by non-Japanese residents in the local community activities and events so that they may adapt themselves to the local community. We are establishing relationships with various organizations and associations, academic bodies, neighborhood associations and local town communities.
Translation support for administrative agencies and local town communities
- Dispatch of interpreters to local communities and translation support
- Supporting translation of information transmitted by administrative agencies
